The COVID cases are once again in news. In our country with every new day, more news COVID cases are being witnessed and recorded than compared to previous day.
If we talk about situation 2 months ago, everything was getting back to normal, but then the new COVID variant OMICRON appeared and started spreading across the world.
Experts in India after seeing the pace of OMICRON infection spread are believing that the new OMICRON variant might be responsible for the possible third wave in the country.
Well, there are also a few facts (whether right or wrong) regarding the new variant, OMICRON is trending in the market. Many people say that Omicron symptoms are mild and less severe than the Delta variant, while many say, people can recover in very days from OMICRON and many others.
However, we are still unaware of the real facts and studies carried out by the experts. Let us what information experts have about COVID new variant OMICRON, for us!!
What Is The Recovery Time From Omicron?
As per the analysis and research carried out on case history of 105 patients infected with new covid variant OMICRON, who were treated at Lok Nayak Hospital, in Delhi, expert Dr Suresh Kumar, medical director of Lok Nayak Hospital said to media that 99% of Omicron patients recovered within a week.
He said that it is true that OMICRON spreads at very fast pace, but it also gets cleared fast from the body compared with the Delta variant.
COVID infection caused due to delta variant took 7-10 days to subside in some cases, while in some it took more than two months to give negative test report.
While the analysis report shows that in the case of the Omicron variant, 92% patients tested RT-PCR negative within a week, 5% on the eighth day and 3% by the ninth day. Only one patient, who also suffered from tuberculosis, remained positive for longer period.
This means people with comorbidities or other health issues like diabetes, hypertension, or TB, take longer time to recover from the new COVID variant, OMICRON infection.
What Are The Major Symptoms Of The COVID Variant, OMICRON?
Doctors and experts says that Most patients affected by Omicron are asymptomatic. Those who develop symptoms usually report low grade fever, with nausea and poor appetite. In children the omicron symptoms include abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Further they says that breathing difficulty, one of the main markers of severity of the disease during the second wave is mostly absent in the cases of OMICRON infection.
A senior doctor quoted that “None of the 105 Omicron patients discharged from Lok Nayak required oxygen or ventilator support”.
OMICRON Is Mild, But Prevention Is Important!!
Now we can see the symptoms of OMICRON is mild and people recover from this early as compared to other variant infections like delta. But we need to consider the spreading pace of OMICRON variant.
It was found that the Omicron variant replicated about 70 times higher in the bronchus than the original SARS-CoV2 and the Delta variant.
The new variant makes the virus stay longer in the throat, which makes it more transmissible. But because it’s capacity to replicate in the lungs is less, it does not cause severe symptoms.
This means that even OMICRON is mild, it is highly contagious. And Higher transmission can put pressure community immunity and also can increase the burden on healthcare system, if continues to rise with high pace in the future.
We need to follow appropriate COVID behaviors, wear mask, maintain social distance and sanitize our hands often, to break the chain spread.
Get Vaccinated. Wear A Mask. Sanitize Your Hands. Save Lives.
