Stay Healthy And Keep Disease At Bay, This Rainy Season!

The time from June to September is the time of monsoon season in India. Yes, monsoon season simply a synonym of delightful time. The scenario everywhere turns green and the arrival of monsoon season infuses new hope for a predominantly agricultural society like ours.

Monsoon is the most awaited season because it gives people in India a break from the scorching torrid summer heat. The rainy season has its own charm and people have their ways to enjoy this season. Some prefer hot cup of coffee, some a bowl of hot soup, while other like to enjoy hot pakodas with a cup of hot ginger tea.

However, no one among us is unaware about the disease that rainy season bring along with. The risk and infection of diseases such as malaria and dengue to cold and flu increases. Moreover, increased water contamination also leads to a greater risk of waterborne diseases like Typhoid and Cholera.

Currently we are already in the midst of the COVID pandemic, in respect of that, it is much important for us to act towards keeping ourselves healthy, and at the same time protected from the viral infection of COVID-19.

Well, there are number of health tricks and precaution that when followed properly, will help us stay safe from the diseases that become more active in rainy season. Let us have a look at these.


A Healthy Diet And Basic Food Hygiene! 

It is believed that when weather changes, especially during the onset of rainy season our immunity system is affected. Therefore, we need to take extra care of the food that we eat during these moisture laden days. It is suggested to people that during rainy season opt for seasonal fruits like pear, blackberry, litchi, plum, and cherry for your daily diet. In addition to seasonal fruits, adding garlic, pepper, ginger, asafoetida, and coriander can significantly enhance digestive power and improve immunity.

Following basic food hygiene is an all time essential for every person, however it becomes prominent during rainy season. People are recommended to thoroughly wash the edible items before consumption, including fruits, all vegetables, especially the green and leafy ones. Avoid eating half-cooked food and prefer properly cooked food. Prefer healthy home -cooked food and avoid eating street foods, they have good potential to spread air-borne disease.


Keep Your Surroundings Clean And Fresh!

Most of the active disease during rainy season are either water-borne (cholera and typhoid) or air-borne (cold and flu). Thus, it is much important that along with keeping yourself clean and fresh, you must maintain a clean and fresh surrounding also. While you clean your house and surrounding make sure that there is no water stagnation or decaying matter around, such places can help mosquitoes and other insects breed out and spread diseases. To prevent mosquitoes and other insects bite you can also use repellents creams or lotions. The use of liquid vaporizers, electric plug-ins for indoors, and mosquito coils or cards for outdoor settings like gardens are useful.

Drink Plenty of Water! 

Drinking plenty of water is an all-time necessity for human being as it has numerous benefits. During rainy season, drinking plenty of water becomes utmost important because due to excessive humidity, our body loose water in the form of sweat at a faster rate, leading to dehydration in our body. Thus, in order to stay hydrated, one needs to drink water in ample amount.

It is also recommended that drink only fresh filtered or boiled water, avoid taking contaminated water or water from unhygienic sources. Best is, carry your own water bottle everywhen you go.


Do Not Drench Again And Again! 

Drenching and playing in rain is one of our most joyous time for most of us, but at the same time it is proved harmful for our health. With the lurking danger of coronavirus and fungal infections, it is important to stay safe and not step outside to welcome the monsoons.

It is advised that if you want to drench in rain wait for at least third or fourth rainfall shower and avoid drenching in the first rain shower as the droplets might have pollutant loaded that can harm your skin and make you fell ill.

In case you do get soaked in the rain, take a warm water bath to clean the body from any sort of invisible pathogens or contaminants. Make sure you clean your feet thoroughly and dry them to prevent rash or fungal growth.

Remember you have to enjoy the rainy season and at the same time you have to keep yourself protected against the diseases that become pro-active during the rainy season. Thus keep following the above mentioned tips, and keep enjoying the rainy season.
