During the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the virus very less infected a pregnant woman, while during the second this number is gradually increasing. Pregnant women who have other comorbidities are more at risk. It has been witnessed in many cases that the COVID effect baby in the womb by reducing the amniotic fluid around the baby. 

As per experts the reason behind more cases of COVID in pregnant woman is because of the new strain or mutant variant of the COVID-19 virus. They also say that this new variant sometime escapes the RT-PCR test.

However, the good news on this sensitive matter is that, till date no cases have been witnessed with birth complications due to COVID. Doctors say that the complication in the pregnancy arise in case if the pregnant lady faces low level of oxygen or has any other comorbidities.


What A Pregnant Women Should Do If She Get COVID Positive? 

A pregnant lady should be more careful during the COVID times as she is dealing with two lives. She must always follow the Covid safety protocols and do not step out until necessary.

Experts advice, very first do not panic if you are pregnant and you get covid positive, as your panic situation will effect baby growth in your womb. Relax yourself and quickly get in touch with your doctor, do not rush to hospital in panic. Remember most Covid cases can be managed at home with phone consultations with the doctor.

Do not self-medicate yourself, and always consult your doctor for any confusion regarding the medicines, even for supplements. Immediately isolate yourself. Keep checking your temperature and oxygen levels every 6 hours.

Keep taking your vitamins and zinc along with a healthy diet and rest. Moderate exercise is also recommended.


When Do A Pregnant Women Need Immediate Medical Attention? 

If your temperature does not subside even after taking paracetamol for four days and at any time your oxygen level goes below 94, you must talk to your doctor. If you have severe chest pain, blueness of the nails, you might need hospitalization.

Experts says that, the third trimester is the crucial time, and it is important to be more careful during this time. This is because, during this phase breathing is compromised and immunity is low. So be careful and keep following COVID protocols.
